To get a bit more of an insight into Sharisse’s work and inspiration, we picked her brain with a few questions - so grab a cuppa (or perhaps a twinkling glass of bubbles is more fitting!) and have a read.

WHY SHOULD COUPLES CONSIDER GETTING NIGHT SHOTS?

I think if you are getting married in winter then it’s a great opportunity to take advantage of the shorter days and do something a little different for your wedding photos. Winter is also the best time to photograph the Milky Way - in summer you have to wait that much longer and miss more of the party later on in the evening!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE LIGHT TO SHOOT IN ON A WEDDING DAY?

Probably the end of golden hour and into blue hour. Some evenings you get some real magic happening in the sky at this time which can be so pretty in photographs.

SUNSET OR NIGHT SHOTS - WHICH IS BEST?

Both! A lot of it comes down to the timings on the wedding day and if the couple are happy to duck out of their reception for a few shots. This is another reason why I love winter weddings as this is less of an issue.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT INCORPORATING NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY INTO A WEDDING DAY?

It’s a great chance to try something different and create images for the couple that they wouldn’t normally see. I particularly enjoy incorporating the Milky Way into wedding photographs as it is quite magical to photograph and I love the sense of wonder that it evokes.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF YOUR JOB?

Telling the story of the day for the couple - capturing the emotions, the little moments that they might have missed. Capturing the relationship of the couple - weddings go so fast that I want to capture images that bring back the feelings and emotions of the day.

WHY SHOULD COUPLES HIRE A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER?

In this day and age, cameras are so good that anyone can take some nice photographs of your wedding. A big part of wedding photography is people skills and organising. What a professional brings is the ability to know the light, backgrounds and angles that work best all while making you feel totally at ease and relaxed so that you can get lovely, natural candid images. It’s also the ability to blend into the background unnoticed when needed. They will also have systems in place for backing up your images, spare equipment in case of failure and in worst case scenario a network of other professionals they can call on, should they need it.
