Ooo, it’s a big decision. Choosing a colour palette can influence the look of your entire day - and completely change how cohesive everything looks in your photos, as well as the overall mood and atmosphere. So, you know - no pressure.

Colour comes into play across your selections for the day, from bridesmaids’ dresses and groomsmen’s ties, to table settings, stationery, the ceremony decor. It doesn’t need to be stressful - and when you find the right colour palette, you’ll be able to trust your gut! However, if you’re in need of a wee bit of inspiration - we’re here to help with a few handy ways to figure out the right fit.

Start with your faves

Sounds like an obvious one - but have a chat between the two of you, and figure out if you mutually have a favourite colour or two! If they’re complimentary, you can start by simply basing your colour scheme on what you love. Can’t go too wrong with this option.

Think about the season

While colours generally will suit any season - darker colours will naturally absorb more heat, which can mean that wearing black or dark coloured dresses on a hot summer’s day can end in overheating! Keeping it light, and considering fabric choices, might be more suitable in the peak of summer. Play into the orange tones of autumn, or choose something bright to pop in the middle of a grey winter.

As well as this - think about what florals or botanicals will be in season or available, and play on this for your overall colour scheme.

Reflect your venue - or stand out from it

There are two approaches you can take when it comes to drawing inspiration from your surroundings. One is to lean into it - pairing your beach wedding with sandy, neutral tones, or soft blues, or playing with the concrete-jungle look by pairing greys and blacks.

Option two? Go for colours that will pop against the backdrop. Meet that cityscape with terracotta tones. Select a deep, romantic burgundy for your lush green forest setting.

When in doubt - get inspired

Still unsure? When in doubt, there’s nothing like being inspired by wedding eye-candy. Take a gander through these gorgeous images, and see which colours speak to you.
