Chloe and Libby - a love story in Greytown

These two sound like the type of couple that have each other in their phones under “Love of my life”. A beautiful and humorous love story to keep you company today… Libby and Chloe. Images from their real wedding, by the wonderful, talented and very awesome Mel Waite Photography.

A real love story

How and where did you meet?

We met at hockey. We played for the same team (in more ways than one as it happens) and a struck up a friendship pretty quickly. Wasn’t long until we realised it was perhaps a bit more than friendship. Chloe took the 8yo boy approach and deliberately hit Libby in the foot at training when she tried to get past her to signal the attraction.

When did you fall for each other?

Chloe: ‘when she took me out on our first official date…to the hurricanes super rugby final…with corporate box tickets’
Libby is flat out working on the Covid response so I’ll answer for her, I’m sure she would say something like… ‘immediately, I mean look at her!’

Where and how did you decide you were going to get hitched!?

We’d had ‘one of those weeks’ so decided to make the most of the weekend. Chloe was planning Saturday and Libby Sunday. We ventured off on our bikes on a frosty late June Kaikoura morning. Despite Libby being hangry, Chloe insisted we didn’t stop for the homemade breaky bagels until we hit the beach. “Can’t miss the sunrise so we have to leave at 6:55am” she said. As we approached the boardwalk by Whale Watch a chopper came into land on the helipad. Chloe had been planning a proposal for a long time but Libby had no idea -and couldn’t believe the chopper was for us!  We were flown along the coast and up into the mountains. Out on the snow with spectacular views, Chloe got down on one knee, said some things, asked the question, presented the ring and was completely over the moon that the lady of her dreams said yes! We had a celebratory glass of bubbles up on the mountain, got dropped back off to our bikes and sat on the boardwalk finishing the rest of the bottle at 8:00am. We got a few looks of concern from those out and about for their early morning exercise but had the perfect excuse - ‘we’re celebrating!’

 The Wedding Day

What did you always envisage for your wedding day celebrations?

We both love the outdoors so being outside was really important to us. Ultimately we just wanted it to be super fun, super chill with an abundance of yummy food and drinks and to be surrounded by our nearest and dearest. We really wanted it to reflect us and our relationship. Oh, and lots of dancing! We were so lucky to have an army of friends and family that worked hard for many days to help set it all up be what it was on the day.

Did you have any special features at your wedding (sentimental, funny, or otherwise)?

Being that covid prevented numerous people from coming, including all of Libby’s extended whanau in the UK, we had a stand with arms pointing off in different directions outlining those that were unable to attend on the day for border restrictions and those that we hold dear to our hearts that are no longer walking with us.

Our dear friend and celebrant, Miranda Zander organised a love actually moment where she had organised for random guests to partake in a reading. They all read lines from ‘I believe in a thing called love’ and it just made our day. Brought everyone in to the ceremony and made them all a part of it.

What was your favourite part of the day, what will you always remember from the wedding

Firstly, when Matt started playing our procession music and it all just suddenly, finally felt real and I couldn’t be happier and less nervous in that moment. It felt right. Secondly, when we were announced as Mrs and Mrs Greville and got to walk back down that aisle with confetti cannons going off and so many loved ones cheering on our love and our future (helped that in this moment we’d also been standing in 30+degree heat for quite some time and ice cold champagne was on its way to meet us)
